A chateau-inspired estate that looks like it would be right at home in Italy or Spain has hit the market, not in the Mediterranean, but in Los Angeles, for $42 million.

The more than 9,300-square-foot mansion is one of the 13 homes within Brentwood Country Estates, a guard-gated community in Lower Mandeville Canyon.

“This property is a world-class European retreat nestled in the heart of Brentwood,” said listing agent Jade Mills of Coldwell Banker Realty, who brought the home to the market earlier this month. It “offers a rare combination of seclusion, scale and architectural elegance.”

Mills shares the listing with colleague Albert Sousa, as well as Santiago Arana of the Agency.

The property is owned by a family trust, who acquired the parcel in 2000, according to records with PropertyShark, which did not show how much was paid. Its listing marks the first time the home has been on the market since it was built in 2001.

From its gravel motor court, a gated archway leads into the property’s central courtyard, complete with vine-laden walls, a fountain and flagstone pathways.

Inside, the house has marble floors, high ceilings, stone fireplaces, columns and beamed ceilings.

There’s a two-story formal living room, a formal dining room, a chef’s kitchen, a breakfast room, a wood-paneled office and library, a gym, and five bedrooms, including a primary suite with a fireplace, walls of French doors and a terrace.

Outside, the 6-acre grounds are “resort quality,” according to the listing. There are expansive lawns, covered patios, a pool, a spa and a rotunda gazebo. Below the gazebo is a temperature-controlled wine cellar and tasting room with space for approximately 1,000 bottles.
