Four people were killed in a major wreck in Long Beach overnight.
The single-car crash happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. Saturday on Lakewood Boulevard, south of Spring Street.
“Four individuals were in the vehicle,” according to a police statement. “Long Beach Fire Department personnel determined all four occupants deceased at the scene. Their ages and genders are unknown at this time.”
Firefighters and paramedics dispatched to the scene reported that a vehicle had struck the center divider, according to Capt. Jack Crabtree of the Long Beach Fire Department.
Video from the scene showed firefighters dousing a crumpled, flaming sedan that appeared to have slammed into the center divider of the Lakewood Boulevard tunnel under Long Beach Airport.
Police said it was unknown whether speed, distracted driving, or impaired driving were contributing factors. The investigation was ongoing.
