After all the rain around the county, some beaches were closed on Saturday because of runoff. According to the county’s website, beach closures remain in effect spanning from Imperial Beach, spanning through the Silver Strand and up into Coronado.
Plenty of people were at the beach in Coronado on Saturday despite the temperatures hovering around the 60’s. It sure looked like paradise, especially compared to the last few days of gloom and rain San Diego just saw. Still, it definitely felt chilly.
“We were just going to go visit the beach, we just wanted to look at it but it was just a little bit too cold to actually go in the water,” said Katie Peterson, who visited the beach with her family on the weekend.
On top of the chillier-than-normal temperatures, the yellow beach hazard signs warning people to stay out of the water were posted all around the beach. These are typically posted roughly 72 hours after heavy rain. However, that didn’t stop surfers from getting out there to enjoy the water.

Others, however, were more hesitant to get in the water after seeing the signs.
“I was just a little confused because I was like oh wow it’s a beach, but we can’t really go in the water,” said Lizzie Peterson, Katie’s sister.
“It’s way warmer than New Mexico, it’s so much nicer, very calm right now. It’s windy — it feels hostile at home right now,” said Peterson.
A General Rain Advisory is in effect across San Diego County until Monday, February 23 at 2 p.m.
