LOS ANGELES, CA — A new report issued Wednesday examines ongoing efforts in Los Angeles County to support LGBTQ+ individuals and organizations.

The first annual report from the Los Angeles County LGBTQ+ Commission provides “an in-depth analysis of key accomplishments, obstacles faced and ongoing long-term projects,” to support the community, according to a news release from the L.A. County Board of Supervisors’ Executive Office.

“This first annual report is a significant step forward in ensuring the County of Los Angeles delivers on its commitment to supporting our LGBTQ+ residents and safeguarding vital resources that help meet the needs of Angelenos across our communities,” said First District Supervisor Hilda Solis, the board’s chair pro tem, in a statement.

The report summarizes the work of the commission from June 2024 to June 2025.

Among the highlighted successes cited are the adoption of the commission’s first strategic plan, its work with over 55 community-based organizations serving the LGBTQ+ community and the provision of advice and recommendations in more than 100 meetings with county departments on LGBTQ+ issues.

Also cited was a town hall-style meeting in Altadena in May that focused on helping LGBTQ+ people impacted by the January 2025 wildfires.

According to a supervisors’ executive office statement, “The rise in anti-LGBTQ+, anti-transgender, gender expansive, intersex and anti-immigrant sentiment created significant obstacles to maintaining smooth operations.”

The wildfires also impacted several commissioners who count themselves as members of the LGBTQ+ community.

That resulted in commission activities being temporarily suspended at one point “to allow time for recovery and support.”

“Trans and queer people hold grounding roots and thriving futures in Los Angeles County,” said LGBTQ+ Commission Chair Héctor Plascencia . May this report solidify our presence and connected direction towards a just and humane county home. We will not be erased.

The LGBTQ+ Commission was established in June 2023, thanks to a motion introduced by Solis and Fourth District Supervisor Janice Hahn.
