YEAH, CHANDI PEOPLE ARE TELLING US TODAY THAT THIS WALL RIGHT HERE WAS THE SPOT OF WHAT THEY CALL THE MOST IMPORTANT SPORTS MOMENT IN PITTSBURGH SPORTS HISTORY. OF COURSE, THAT HOME RUN BALL IN GAME SEVEN OF THE 1960 WORLD SERIES. AND TODAY, FANS, YOUNG AND OLD, HAVE COME HERE TO PAY THEIR RESPECTS AS WELL. AT MAZ’S STATUE AT PNC PARK. AND WE TALKED TO ONE OF THOSE FANS WHO KNEW HIM WELL. THAT WAS A SPORTS AUTHOR AND HISTORIAN, DAVID FINLEY. HERE’S A MAN WHO WHO DIDN’T HE WASN’T A POWER HITTING TITAN OF THE GAME AT THE TIME AND JUST MET THE MOMENT. YOU KNOW, THIS WALL. AND THE GREAT THING ABOUT THIS WALL, IT WAS NOT EASY TO HIT A HOME RUN OFF OF, ESPECIALLY GOING INTO LEFT FIELD. JUST WHAT A MAMMOTH SHOT IT WAS. HE WAS BORN ONE YEAR LATER, AND HE SAYS HE WAS ABLE TO TAKE IN THE PIRATES DYNASTY OF THAT TIME AS A YOUNG CHILD. AND AGAIN, FANS, YOUNG AND OLD TODAY HAVE HONORED THE LEGEND. IT TRULY DOESN’T MATTER HOW OLD THEY ARE, AS IN THIS MOMENT DOES MEAN SOMETHING TO EVERYONE AT THE STATUE OUTSIDE PNC PARK, A WREATH WITH YELLOW FLOWERS READS IN LOVING MEMORY OF A PIRATES LEGEND. OTHER FLOWERS AND ITEMS ARE PART OF A GROWING MEMORIAL THERE AND HERE AT THE WALL AT FORBES FIELD. THERE ARE MORE TRIBUTES, A SIGN READING ALL OF MAZ’S ACCOLADES AND OF COURSE, A SIX PACK OF BEER. GROWING UP AS A PIRATES FAN. YOU KNOW, I’VE SEEN ALL THE VIDEOS AND THE INTERVIEWS AND EVEN THE, YOU KNOW, THE YEARS THAT I SAW WHEN THE PIRATES WERE GOOD FROM 2013 TO 15, YOU KNOW, YOU WOULD SEE HIM HELPING OUT THE YOUNGER PLAYERS. AND OBVIOUSLY, YOU KNOW, HE’S JUST BEEN A GREAT DEAL TO THE WHOLE CITY. WE’RE HEARING FROM MORE FANS, AS WELL AS PIRATES MANAGER DON KELLY TONIGHT, AND WE’LL HAVE ALL OF THAT FOR YOU.
