SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (FOX26) — Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer joined several mayors of California’s 13 largest cities in San Francisco on Wednesday for the inaugural C13 Summit, marking the first time the bipartisan group has convened to address statewide challenges including homelessness, housing and economic development.
The Big City Mayors Coalition, representing more than 11 million Californians, unveiled a unified action agenda aimed at tackling some of the most pressing issues facing the Golden State.
The mayors said the summit served as a launching point for greater collaboration with Governor Gavin Newsom and state lawmakers to deliver results-driven solutions.
“We are in a housing crisis in America,” says Mayor Dyer. “Housing crisis in the state of California, and I know that to be true in my city in Fresno, and mayors across the state of California have been thrust into the situation of what are we going to do as mayors to provide additional housing in our cities. We don’t necessarily build the housing but we’re very effective in making sure we have policies that support housing, we subsidize housing, we do everything we can to increase housing within our cities.”
Mayor Dyer says he believes him and the other mayors are making a great effort in increasing housing production in terms of affordability.

The coalition’s new roadmap focuses on expanding affordable housing, reducing homelessness through coordinated regional efforts and fostering economic growth across city lines.
The mayors also called for stronger state partnerships and flexibility in how cities deploy funding for local needs.
The summit concluded with a joint commitment to continue meeting regularly and to present legislative recommendations early next year.
