Sacramento State bolsters security after Lil Yachty concert issues, with new measures for Quavo’s post-game concert on Friday.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State officials say new safety measures have been implemented following concerns that led to Lil Yachty’s concert being cut short after last Saturday’s homecoming football game.Â
In a joint statement, Dean of Students Bill Hebert Jr. and University Police Chief Chet Madison Jr. say the safety of students, staff, faculty, and guests is the university’s top priority and that Sac State hopes to continue hosting live entertainment on campus.Â
Rapper Quavo is slated to perform Friday after the Hornets play the Montana Grizzlies at Hornet Stadium.Â
Hebert and Madison outlined several safety measures ahead of Friday’s event:Â
“First, we have strengthened our crowd management strategy. We have also increased staffing and security personnel and implemented additional crowd control measures that will reduce the confusion about standards and protocol.”
“For this Friday’s event, all guests who wish to enjoy the post-game concert will be required to remain in the stand. Community members attempting to jump the railing at Hornet Stadium or otherwise access the track, field, or any area beyond the barricades will be banned from Hornet Stadium and may face penalties including arrest.”
“For students, these actions will also be considered violations of the Student Code of Conduct, and they will result in disciplinary consequences,” the statement continues.”Â
We take safety with the utmost seriousness and will continue to prioritize a secure environment where everyone can enjoy our football games and post-game performances.
By respecting ourselves, one another, and the experience we’re building, our Hornet community will have a safe, fantastic time this Friday night.”
Lil Yachty’s concert ended early last weekend due to behavior that didn’t meet university standards, Sacramento State President Luke Wood said.
The concert happened after Sac State’s homecoming football game against the Northern Colorado Bears, which was attended by over 20,000 fans, according to the university.Â
The Hornets’ game on Friday night is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN2.Â
