Local restaurant owners pour their heart and soul into their businesses. That’s why it’s especially heartbreaking that seven Sacramento restaurants were burglarized within 24 hours last weekend. We can only imagine the frustration and fear the owners felt walking into shattered glass and costly damage. Costly damage to an industry known to have slim margins, where a Saturday night can make or break you. It began around 4 a.m. Friday at Bacon & Butter, sadly, a business that has already faced multiple crimes over the past decade. The owner of Sac City Brew watched it unfold on security cameras and says it appeared to be a calculated group. Glass doors were smashed, equipment damaged — and in the end, very little money was taken compared to the destruction left behind. Milano’s Pizza, Happy Takeout, Tasty Dumpling, Oscar’s Very Mexican Food and Pangaea Bier Café experienced similar break-ins: minimal cash stolen, but expensive repairs and a lasting sense of violation. These restaurants need our support right now. They pay rent, salaries, and taxes. They support families.They create gathering places that bring culture, character, and community to our neighborhoods. When we say “shop local,” this is what we mean. Show up. Support them.
