The California Democratic Party likely won’t endorse anyone in the race for governor or statewide offices ahead of the primary election in June. Candidates need at least 60% of the vote from delegates at the party’s convention this weekend in order to get the party’s endorsement. Results posted Saturday night showed no candidates could reach that requirement for any of the open statewide seats. The results won’t be considered official until Sunday, when the party ratifies them. Incumbents Attorney General Rob Bonta, Secretary of State Shirley Weber and State Controller Malia Cohen were the only people able to meet the endorsement threshold. In the crowded race for governor, Congressman Eric Swalwell got the most votes with 23% followed by former State Controller Betty Yee with 17%. “I look forward to uniting our party and leading us to victories across the state in November,” Swalwell said in a statement on Saturday night. In the race for lieutenant governor, State Treasurer Fiona Ma had nearly 50% of the vote but others were split between former Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs and Chief Service Officer Josh Fryday. In the state treasurer’s race, current Lieutenant Gov. Eleni Kounalakis had more than half of the votes while State Sen. Anna Caballero had 35.5% of the votes. In the race for insurance commissioner, State Sen. Ben Allen had a slight edge with 41.6% of the vote while former San Francisco Supervisor Jane Kim had 40% The race to be Superintendent of Public Instruction was split across five candidates. Los Angeles Community College District Trustee Nichelle Henderson got nearly 25% of the vote while Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi had 22%.
