Re “President revokes finding on danger of emissions” (Feb. 13): Trump’s funding the oil and gas industry for profit is what is driving his repeal of the environmental laws enacted by those whom he calls the “leftist liberals.” Here are two of the leftist liberals: California Gov. Ronald Reagan’s tenure (1967-1975) was marked by strong and wide-ranging conservative environmental management, from which Californians benefit today. With bipartisan support, President Richard Nixon (1969-1974) enacted the strictest environmental laws and institutions in U.S. history which are the EPA (1970), Clean Air Act (1970), Endangered Species Act (1973) and National Environmental Policy Act (1970). At one time, Republicans held the health and welfare of citizens and the environment in our best interest.
