RIO VERDE, Ariz. – The Oakland women’s golf team concluded its first invitational of the fall season on Sunday, finishing 17th at the Rio Verde Collegiate at Rio Verde CC.

Picking up right where she left off, junior Olivia Hemmila was the Golden Grizzlies’ top performer, tying for 30th overall with a 228 (+12). Hemmila has now led the team in five of its six invitationals this season, including each of the last five.

Just two strokes back was fellow junior Lily Bargamian, who carded a 230 (+14). After a slow start on Friday, Bargamian bounced back with a combined 149 (+5) over Saturday and Sunday. She led the team in birdies with eight, including six on Sunday, and tied for fifth in overall par-3 scoring with a 3.08 stroke average.

Senior Paige Scott opened the invitational tied for ninth after firing a 74 (+2) in the first round, matching Hemmila. Scott recorded three birdies and 10 pars in that opening round, tying her best score of the season from the A-Ga-Ming Invitational. She went on to tie for 58th with a final total of 234 (+18).

Rounding out the scoring were senior Grace Boczar and freshman Channing Hagen. Boczar was steady throughout the weekend, posting the same score in every round. Her rounds counted toward the team total in the first and third rounds, while Hagen’s score contributed in the second. They finished with totals of 237 and 242, respectively.

Overall, the Golden Grizzlies turned in their best three-round performance since the A-Ga-Ming Invitational back in September. With the spring season just getting underway, Oakland has put itself in a strong position to continue lowering scores and compete for a strong finish at the Horizon League Championships at the end of April.
