Flights between Fresno Yosemite International Airport and Guadalajara were canceled Sunday night after violent narco blockades erupted in the Mexican state of Jalisco following reports that cartel leader Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, widely known as “El Mencho,” had been killed.
Airport spokesperson Vikkie Calderon said Aeromexico canceled both the scheduled arrivals from Guadalajara and the outbound departure from Fresno as a precaution amid escalating security concerns in the region.
She also said Volaris has canceled one Guadalajara flight arrival Sunday night and an early morning (12:50 a.m.) Guadalajara flight departure.
Authorities in Mexico reported multiple road blockades and vehicle fires across parts of Guadalajara on Sunday, creating significant safety risks and disrupting transportation routes to and from the airport.
Fresno passengers scheduled for the Guadalajara flight should check directly with their airline for the latest updates, Calderon said.
