RANCHO SAN DIEGO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Three cars were engulfed in flames after a traffic accident in Rancho San Diego Sunday night, according to San Miguel Fire and Rescue.
Fire officials said they responded to an incident that occurred around 8:37 p.m. on Calle Albara, which is near Rancho San Diego Elementary School.
Crews said that when they arrived at the scene, three vehicles were on fire after a car hit two parked cars.
Officials said the people who were in the vehicle that caused the crash got out of the car and fled on foot to a nearby hillside.
No one else was in the other vehicles, San Miguel Fire said. The fire did pose a threat to nearby vegetation.
Luckily, crews were able to knock down the fire before it spread.
ASTREA flew over the scene to check for any victims or hotspots, but officials said the crew did not spot anything.
Calle Albara will be closed from Jamacha Road to Avenida Apolinaria as the California Highway Patrol investigates and cleans up the scene.
