SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

Chaos has erupted in Mexico after the country’s army killed the most powerful cartel leader and one of the United States’ most wanted fugitives.

While the death of Jalisco New Generation Cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes — “El Mencho” — is a decisive victory, cartel members have responded with violence. That has prompted Mexican officials to order Americans currently in the country to shelter in place.

In his video, a bus can be seen on fire, with flames shooting out of the vehicle and igniting a nearby building.
