FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — In less than a year, Marcus Nolen went from facing high school pitchers to staring down college arms that throw significantly harder.
It has not fazed the Central East HS grad one bit.
The Fresno State freshman crushed a grand slam Sunday for his 1st collegiate home run, and it proved to be the difference as Fresno State held off Pepperdine, 11-7.
A freshman pitcher also earned the win – Brandon Thomas – and five more freshmen saw the field because of early season injuries to regular starters Cayden Munster, Cam Schneider, Lee Trevino and Owen Faust.
“Putting that line-up out there today was one that, even in scrimmages a couple weeks ago, would not have been an option,” said Overland. “But these [freshmen] have been thrown into the fire and they’ve handled it well so far.”
The Diamond ‘Dogs bounced back from Pepperdine’s 2-run, 9th inning rally Friday night to win Saturday as well. Here are highlights of that 10-6 win:
