Missing person incident depicts emergency personnel in boat on water

Authorities, including Sacramento County sheriff’s divers, searched Monday for a car reported in the water in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta near Walnut Grove but did not find the vehicle, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Callers first reported the car in the water near Twin Cities and River roads about 5:45 a.m., according to dispatches from the CHP’s South Sacramento office. The report prompted CHP officers, U.S. Coast Guard personnel and sheriff’s deputies to respond to the scene, 20 miles south of downtown Sacramento.

Coast Guard personnel reportedly spotted what was believed to be the vehicle about 7:20 a.m., according to CHP dispatch logs.

Subsequent searches by sheriff’s divers continued into Monday afternoon, CHP officials said Monday evening. The divers failed to find a vehicle that matched the description of the one that went into the water, authorities said.
