  • February 24, 2026

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – An Inkster man and a Pennsylvania woman are facing human trafficking charges after being arrested in Southfield.

Kylee Lynn Berry and Jowuan Lawrence Shorter were both charged with operating a human trafficking enterprise and accepting earnings of prostitution. Berry was also charged with possession of a controlled substance.

According to authorities, the two were arrested Saturday, Feb. 21, at a Southfield hotel after a 47-year-old Detroit man reported being robbed at the hotel, where he had gone to meet a sex worker.

Police said they searched two rooms at the hotel and found suspected cocaine and fentanyl and evidence supporting human trafficking.

Authorities are seeking a third man who is wanted in the case.

Shorter and Berry are believed to be connected to crimes in Bloomfield Township, Canton and Romulus.

They are each being held on $50,000 bond.

Anyone with information or who may be a trafficking victim is urged to call the Human Trafficking tip line at 248-858-0411.
