The CIF State Wrestling tournament begins Thursday at Dignity Health Arena in Bakersfield. The three-day event opens at 9 a.m. with early rounds of the girls championships, followed by the boys, getting underway at noon.

Friday’s schedule also starts at 9 a.m., with the championship quarterfinals at 1 p.m.

The final day gets underway at 9 a.m. with the semifinals 10:30 a.m. and the championship finals at 6:15 p.m.

Last year, Peninsula’s Leila Witzerman was the lone South Bay medalist, placing eighth at 110 pounds. She returns this year, ranked fifth in the state at 110 pounds.

South Torrance’s Caden Garriott will be making his third consecutive trip. Garriott is ranked 11th in the state at 126 pounds. Peninsula’s Efosa Osayande will be making a second consecutive trip. Osayande is ranked eighth in the state at 175 pounds.

Banning leads all South Bay teams with five qualifiers (Heidi Fernandez, Delfina Palmas, Jasmine Bonilla, Camilia Alba, Junior Lopez and Luis Cervantes). Lopez and Cervantes qualified as L.A. City champions. Bonilla is making her second consecutive state appearance, as is Carson’s Troi Ellis.

South boys are sending three (Garriott, Kyle DaNobrega and Robert Crowe). San Pedro qualified four girls (Emma Alversado, Saphiah Atlas, Zoe Brodin and Andrea Baker). Peninsula is also sending three (Witzerman, Osayande and Gianna Lopez).

Qualifying was done at the CIF-Southern Section Masters Meet and the L.A. City Section championship.
