SAN JOSE — Two people are dead following a shooting reported at a busy West San Jose shopping center Tuesday morning, according to San Jose police.
The shooting was reported at 11:38 a.m. in the 500 block of El Paseo de Saratoga, which runs through a complex that houses anchor stores like REI and Petco, and also an AMC movie theater.
According to police and fire dispatchers, a man and woman were found unconscious and not breathing, and were soon after pronounced dead at the scene. Police called the shooting “an isolated incident,” but did not immediately release additional details Tuesday.
They added that the parking lot surrounding the crime scene will be “closed for several hours while our Homicide Unit investigates the incident,” and advised people and motorists to avoid the area.
The deaths mark the city’s fourth and fifth homicides of the year investigated by San Jose police; the city recorded three such homicides at the same point in 2025, according to data compiled by this news organization.
