Police, firefighter-paramedics and sheriff’s department arson-explosives investigators responded Monday morning to Switzer Learning Center in Torrance.

Video showed several law enforcement patrol SUVs and at least one armored SWAT vehicle at the school located on Amapola Court south of Del Amo Boulevard and west of Van Ness Avenue. Torrance police asked people to stay clear of the area near Amapola Avenue and 205th Street due to police activity.

NBCLA is attempting to confirm reports of a stabbing at the special education center.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said personnel were requested for a possible arson-explosives investigation.

At least three ambulances were at the location, but it was not immediately clear whether anyone was hospitalized.

NBCLA has reached out to the learning center, sheriff’s department and Torrance police for more details.

The non-public school and behavioral health center offers elementary, middle and high school programs for children and young adults with special needs.
