A new documentary capturing Los Angeles’ teen-run backyard music scene will get a first public look in Pasadena on March 1, pairing exclusive footage with live sets from bands featured in the film.
Healing Force of the Universe, a record shop and performance venue, is presenting the event, which centers on youth creativity and DIY shows organized by teens in residential spaces, according to the filmmakers.
The project, titled “Backyards: A Documentary About LA’s Teen Music Scene,” follows 12 bands as they build community and identity through backyard shows — including local acts Mae Mae, Missing Wiba and Birdhouse, according to the project’s producers.
Attendees at the March 1 event will see clips from the unfinished film and then hear those three bands perform live.
The afternoon program is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Healing Force of the Universe, 1200 E. Walnut St., in Pasadena.
Admission is $5 at the door, and the all-ages show is open to the public.
Los Angeles College of Music is listed as the event sponsor, with LAist as media partner.
