LONG BEACH, Calif. – Freshman Nina Sepulveda was named the Big West Freshman of the Week for the second straight week, confirming her spot as one of the most promising newcomers in the conference after an outstanding weekend at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

Sepulveda led Long Beach State in batting in Cathedral City, starting all five games and hitting .429 while slugging .643 and scoring five runs. Sepulveda helped set the table for Long Beach State’s win over No. 4 Oklahoma, hitting an RBI single for the third run of the game and then scoring on Lina Apodaca’s three-run home run as part of the win.

Sepulveda also used the long ball, hitting her second home run of the season, a two-run shot that helped Long Beach State defeat Bethune-Cookman. The freshman hit safely in four of five games and had multiple hits against both BYU and Bethune-Cookman.

Long Beach State closes the tournament portion of their non-conference schedule this weekend, taking part in the Hillenbrand Invitational hosted by Arizona. The Beach will play No. 16 Arizona twice as well as two games against Howard and one against Minnesota beginning on Friday, February 27.
