LONG BEACH, CA — Long Beach is one of the 20 most diverse cities in the United States and top 10 among diverse large cities, according to a newly-released study from personal finance company WalletHub.
To determine the places in the U.S. with the most mixed demographics, WalletHub compared the profiles of more than 500 of the largest cities across five major diversity categories: socioeconomic, cultural, economic, household, and religious.
Long Beach ranks 16th overall and 10th among large cities, according to the study. The city earned a total score of 71.32 out of 100. It was ranked 27th when it comes to socioeconomic diversity, 40th in cultural diversity, and 54th in household diversity.
“The most diverse cities demonstrate diversity in many dimensions – not just in race and gender but also everything from residents’ languages and birthplaces to their job types and household sizes,” WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo explained in a statement.
The only other Southern California city ranked higher than Long Beach overall was Los Angeles at no. 9. The next California city listed after Long Beach is Oakland at no. 29.
