FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — The Fresno Unified School Board is preparing to vote on a resolution to cut hundreds of jobs after the district announced a budget shortfall this week.
A meeting got underway at 4:30 this afternoon and according to the schedule, there will be an opportunity for public comment.
The district confirms about 200 positions could be cut, including preschool teachers, counselors, nurses and campus safety assistants.
The district says it’s facing a $77 million shortfall and a projected $59 million deficit the following year.
Administrators attribute the reduction to declining enrollment and low attendance.
The budget discussion is scheduled for the board meeting’s open session at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
