Now, Oakland is planning a community celebration to honor the gold medalist. Although details have yet to be announced, the city of Oakland shared via Instagram that they reached out to Liu’s team to organize the celebration.

So, while a date for the celebration and more details are still being worked out, we’re excited to celebrate the incredible figure skater. Alysa Liu is just 20 years old and trained at the Oakland Ice Center for much of her career. Liu has proudly represented Oakland and the Bay Area throughout her career, and it’s safe to say she has many devoted fans around the Bay (us included).

Liu first competed at the Olympics at just 16 in 2022, before retiring from the sport that spring. After two years, she took to the ice and rediscovered her love for skating, and officially announced her return in 2024. She went on to win the World Figure Skating Championships in 2025, before eventually taking home gold at her second Olympics. You can see Liu skate in person this spring when she performs at the Stars on Ice tour stop in San Jose. The event will take place on May 17 and will feature several other Olympic skaters, including Ilia Malinin, Isabeau Levito, and Amber Glenn.

Stay tuned for more details.
