KEEP AN EYE ON
The Rangers went from 68 wins in 2022 to 90 wins and a World Series title in Bruce Bochy’s first year on the job. They’ve since won 78 games and 81, respectively, and are turning the keys over to former Padres coach Skip Schumaker, who won a wild-card spot in his first year in Miami and then limped to 62 wins amid some front-office upheaval in Miami before sitting out last year. Meantime, Bochy, who mutually agreed to step down, has returned to the Giants organization in an advisory role.
The Rangers gave up a haul, including last year’s first-rounder, to pry LHP MacKenzie Gore from the Nationals and install him as the fourth starter behind RHPs Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi and Jack Leiter. That leaves the likes of RHP Kumar Rocker and LHPs Jacob Latz and Cody Bradford coming off injury vying for the fifth spot in the rotation.
SS Corey Seager had 21 homers and an .860 OPS but injuries limited him to just 102 games and have generally allowed him to play in more than 140 games just twice in his career. He’s entering his Age 32 season but remains the most important Ranger as they look to get back into the postseason.
Fangraphs projection: 80.4 wins
