San Diego State’s women’s basketball team clinched the regular-season Mountain West title Wednesday night with a 66-64 win at Boise State.

The Aztecs took the lead to stay at 59-56 with 5 ½ minutes to play as Naomi Panganiban hit a 3-pointer off a pass from Natalia Martinez following a Bailey Barnhard offensive rebound.

The Aztecs then kept the Broncos at bay by hitting seven free throws down the stretch. Guard Nala Williams hit two free throws with a second to play to give the Aztecs a 66-61 lead. Boise State hit a three at the final buzzer.

“I was disappointed with our effort or lack thereof in the first half,” SDSU coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said. “We completely flipped the script in the third quarter when we came out and went on that 10-0 run. That was the effort and energy that we need to always play with.”

Panganiban (La Jolla Country Day) scored 19 points as the Aztecs completed a two-game season sweep of the Broncos. Kaelyn Hamilton scored 13 points off the bench and Barnhard (Del Norte High School) had 10 points and six rebounds. Kennedy Lee had nine points, six rebounds and two steals.

San Diego State is 23-4 overall and 17-1 in Mountain West play. Boise State, UNLV and Colorado State are tied for second with 13-5 records. Boise State fell to 22-7 overall. Winners of six straight, the Aztecs close their home schedule Saturday at 1 p.m. in Viejas Arena against Wyoming.

Boise State led 29-18 with 17 seconds to play in the first half Wednesday. Williams hit a three-pointer at the buzzer and the Aztecs outscored the Broncos 45-35 in the second half.
