A 68-year-old Las Vegas man is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 14 for his convictions on 23 felony counts of sexually assaulting two girls he is related to in Orange County.
One of the girls confided to her doctor during a wellness check in July 2021 that Donald Charles Luther had molested her when she was 5 to 9 years old and living with him in Dove Canyon, prosecutors said in a trial brief.
The then-15-year-old girl’s mother took her to Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputies to report the allegations.
The girl said Luther would molest her while babysitting her as her mother went to school, prosecutors said. The victim said he made her watch pornography, prosecutors added.
The girl’s mother told investigators as they interviewed her daughter that the defendant also molested her when they lived in Humboldt County when she was younger, prosecutors said.
The girl’s mother told authorities about it when she was 12 and Luther was arrested, but because her mother and grandmother didn’t believe her and were pressuring her, she recanted the allegations, prosecutors said.
The other victim said she was molested by Luther when she was 11 to 13 years old in the early 1990s.
Luther was convicted by a jury at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana on Tuesday.
