LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A former bartender identified in court filings as Jane Doe has sued Soho House, alleging the private club failed to protect her after she reported sexual harassment and later a sexual assault by a supervisor.

According to the lawsuit filed on Wednesday in a downtown Los Angeles courthouse, the woman was working as a bartender at a restaurant at Soho Warehouse in downtown when a then-supervisor allegedly drugged and raped her following a work-related outing.

The lawsuit states that in September, the alleged victim had drinks with co-workers and supervisors, including the defendant named in the suit.

She reported feeling disoriented and later lost consciousness, waking up naked in his apartment. The filing says she was paralyzed and speechless as he “repeatedly raped her inanimate body.”

The former bartender says she reported the incident to management and eventually to human resources. The lawsuit accuses management of dismissing her report and says HR told her the complaint was uncorroborated.

She claims the supervisor was not disciplined and that she was forced to continue working with him, ultimately feeling compelled to quit earlier this month.

“They did nothing because she hadn’t filed a police report. She did file a police record ultimately, but this individual is still there and has not been disciplined,” the plaintiff’s attorney Neama Rahmani.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed it is investigating.

In a statement, a Soho House spokesperson told Eyewitness News that the company takes all allegations of misconduct very seriously, adding, “… While this alleged incident did not occur on Soho House premises or during work hours, we initiated a formal internal investigation and followed our strict company policies. Based on our findings, decisive and appropriate actions were taken. We remain committed to maintaining a safe and respectful working environment for all our team members.”

The lawsuit is seeking a jury trial.
