Gov. Gavin Newsom and other supporters for Proposition 50 were boosting their campaign Thursday with the launch of a phone bank in the Bay Area.

The November special election is less than two weeks away, and politicians on both sides of the redistricting issue are busy. Some South Bay voters could get a phone call from the governor himself, as he joins Rep. Zoe Lofgren and labor leaders at a phone bank in San Jose.

Voters have been mailing in their ballots in the special election featuring Prop. 50, the measure that allows California to temporarily suspend the Citizens Independent Redistricting Commission to redraw congressional lines. It’s a measure to offset partisan redistricting in Texas, which will deliver five Republican seats in the midterm elections.
