Joe Rogan has an idea about what President Donald Trump should do after his second term ends, having floated the concept that he should run for the governor of California on his podcast.

“It would be hilarious,” Rogan said.

Why It Matters

Rogan, who has one of the most popular podcasts in the country, endorsed Trump in the 2024 presidential election, and Trump appeared as a guest on his podcast during his campaign for president.

He later attended Trump’s inauguration and was part of a cohort of male podcasters credited with helping to boost Trump’s popularity, particularly with young male voters.

The current governor of California is, of course, Gavin Newsom, a frequent and outspoken critic of Trump. Rogan has regularly criticized Newsom for multiple issues, including his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Newsom, though, has previously said that he is a fan of Rogan’s, and Rogan’s following is a group that Newsom may well be looking to court if he is to run for president in the 2028 election, something that many have speculated he will do.

What To Know

“What Donald Trump should do is when he leaves office, run for governor of California,” Rogan said during a recent episode of his podcast with comic and author Francis Foster and political commentator Konstantin Kisin.

Rogan continued, adding, “Just take over California and fix it. It would be hilarious if he did. It would be one of the funniest things of all time, if an 82-year-old man steps into the office of California,” Rogan said, before doing an impression of Trump, and said, “We’re gonna fix everything, got a problem with water, I know how to get the water.”

He made these comments after he had been discussing people leaving Los Angeles during the episode. Kisin says, “They f***** it up so bad, that people will literally pack up and leave paradise.”

Rogan’s remarks were tongue-in-cheek but received a supportive response from social media users.

@AndreaWilley718 replied to a clip of Rogan’s remarks on X “The best!”, whole @total_recharge wrote “Epic.”

People have yet to respond by actually calling for this to happen in practice, though.

The famous podcaster’s remarks come shortly after he criticized Newsom on his show during an episode with the retired Navy SEAL and author Jack Carr. He said at the time, “He wants to be president so bad. You can’t ruin a city and then go on to ruin a state and say, ‘guys, that was just practice, once I get in as president, I’m gonna fix it.’”

Newsom responded to this, asking Rogan to invite him onto his podcast.

What People Are Saying

Gavin Newsom, in a post on X on October 9: “Joe Rogan is too [chicken emoji] to have me on his show and expose his listeners to the truth, so I’ll put it here. California is: – 4th largest economy in the world – #1 in manufacturing – #1 in farming – #1 in new business starts. – #1 for tech and VC investments – #1 for Fortune 500 companies – #1 public higher education I could continue… invite me on any time, @joerogan.”

Joe Rogan, speaking on his podcast: “It would be f****** hilarious.”

What’s Next

As Newsom has previously responded to Rogan’s criticism of him, he could well do so again, as clashes between the two high-profile men continue to play out online.
