Public Storage, which got its start in El Cajon in 1972, has announced it is leaving California and moving its corporate headquarters from Glendale to Frisco, Texas.

This is the latest in a series of corporate relocations from California to Texas, including SpaceX, Tesla and Chevron.

Public Storage operates thousands of self-storage units across the country.

When the first location opened in San Diego’s East County, the two owners had a fiesta, according to the company’s website, “complete with mariachis and bright orange doors to attract the attention of potential customers driving by on the nearby highway.”

The company says the move to the Dallas-Fort Worth area is part of a broader restructuring, and will “maintain a long-term presence in Glendale.”
