A family remains shaken after a man broke into their apartment in Los Angeles while they were sleeping inside.

Surveillance cameras captured the suspect lurking around an apartment complex in Leimert Park around 3 a.m. on Feb. 24.

He eventually finds an open window at Pazz Johnson’s apartment and climbs his way inside.

“He came to the window, pulled the screen off, lifted up the window, climbed over my couch and he was walking around,” she told KTLA’s Rick Chambers. “I don’t know what he was doing, but it’s frightening.”

Pazz said her family sometimes leaves the window slightly open for airflow and that her daughter likes to sleep on the couch that the man was seen climbing over.

Surveillance footage showed the intruder walking around the home for a few minutes before leaving. The family said he did not appear to steal anything.

“He took my remote controls and spread them on the couch,” said victim Gregory Johnson. “He walked from the couch over to the TV and then unlocked the door and walked out.”

Pazz said they were only awoken by the sound of the suspect unlatching the deadbolt lock on her front door as he left.

With two young children at home, Pazz said the incident was beyond frightening. Her neighbors echoed the sentiment.

“That really scares me,” said neighbor Sylva Cox. “The fact that he just came in and left. It’s so weird.”

The Johnson family has been notifying their neighbors of the break-in, telling them to lock their doors and keep an eye out in case he returns.

“It’s definitely frightening and makes you rethink some things,” Pazz said.

“I know I won’t leave the windows open anymore, that’s guaranteed,” Gregory said.

The suspect appears to be a man in his 30s with a thick beard. The incident remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.

Anyone who recognizes the man or has information on the case is asked to call LAPD at 1-877-527-3247.
