The Los Angeles LGBT Center is challenging you to grab a bike and get moving for a good cause.

The first-ever Center Ride Out will take off on April 24 for a three-day cycling fundraiser through Southern California, stretching from Los Angeles to San Diego.

Ride director Melissa Lewis said the community event will truly allow participants to choose their own adventure.

“We welcome new riders. We welcome people who are more experienced riders,” Lewis said. “This is really something that can be as challenging as you want to make it, or as accessible as you need.”

Leaving from Elysian Fields in Los Angeles, the 110-mile ride on day one will take participants through the rolling hills of Riverside County.

Day 2 in the Inland Empire will bring riders to Lake Skinner, with the chance to participate in a summer camp experience, or enjoy a handful of looped route options.

On April 26, riders will go for the big finish, ending with a celebration in San Diego.

Lewis said across the nearly 200-mile ride, participants can choose the entry and exit points that fit their needs and lifestyle.

“We are opening up a two-day rider option, so folks can get to Lake Skinner, or the final day to San Diego, so under 100-mile days,” Lewis said.

The fully-supported event includes access to bike tech support, medical volunteers, and rest stops every 15-20 miles for peace of mind.

“If at any point you don’t feel like you can continue, we can take you to lunch or to the camp at the end of the day,” Lewis said. “It’s really meant to be an accessible experience for everybody.”

The event replaces the center’s AIDS/LifeCycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles that raised more than $300 million for HIV/AIDS services since 1994.

“At its core, this ride is about community,” Lewis said, adding proceeds will directly fund the critical and live-saving services of the Los Angeles LGBT Center.

10% of net proceeds will also benefit the San Diego LGBT Community Center and The LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert.
