Sharks Looking For First Win
San Jose has yet to win a game this season, as the Sharks are in the midst of their four-game road trip, which includes a short trip down South to face New Jersey after playing the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. In the loss to the Islanders, the Sharks were led by Colin Graf, who had a goal and an assist, Adam Gaudette had one goal, and Macklin Celebrini also scored. San Jose has allowed 29 goals and has a -13 scoring differential
The Sharks are expected to start Yaroslav Askarov, who’s 0-2-1 with a 5.72 GAA and a .838 SV%, as goaltending has been an issue for San Jose. Askarov is one of the top young goalies in the NHL, but he has yet to prove it. He will be making his first career start against the Rangers.
Rangers Struggling to Score
New York scored their first goal at home after being shut out in their first three home games of the season. The Rangers’ lone goal was the first goal of the game, but the Rangers then allowed three unanswered goals. New York got the goal from Artemi Panarin, while Mika Zibanejad and Will Borgen had the assists. The Rangers have scored just 16 goals and have allowed 15 thus far for a +1 scoring differential.
The Rangers will start Igor Shesterkin, who’s 2-3-1 with a 1.17 GAA and a .957 SV%, as he’s been stellar, but his record doesn’t reflect it due to the lack of goals from New York. Shesterkin is 5-0-2 with a 1.62 GAA and a .945 SV% in his career against San Jose.
Sharks vs. Rangers PickMoney line pick for Sharks vs. Rangers Rangers -1.5 -120 (5 units)
San Jose has been playing terribly defensively and in goal, as this is a great spot for the Rangers’ offense to start clicking and have more success. Shesterkin has been dominant this season, and San Jose has struggled to score to begin the season, so he should lead New York to a big win here. Look for Panarin, Zibanejad, and Lafreniere to break through and have an offensive outburst for a lopsided win.
Over/Under pick for Sharks vs. Rangers
The over is a great spot here, as I expect this game to be a 5-2, 4-2 type of win for the Rangers. San Jose is a young, aggressive team, which leads to plenty of odd-man rushes and scoring chances, which will help the over. This season, the Sharks are 4-2 in hitting the over, and although the Rangers are 2-6, the way San Jose’s goaltending and defense have been playing, it should lead to plenty of goals.
