A 12-year-old boy was seriously injured in a hit-and-run vehicle collision in El Cajon, authorities reported Thursday.

Officers responded around 8 p.m. Wednesday to reports of a juvenile pedestrian who was found in the roadway in the 300 block of Ballantyne Street near the intersection of East Park Avenue, according to the El Cajon Police Department.

Police said the boy suffered major head trauma and was taken to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Witnesses described the hit-and-run suspect’s vehicle as a white or silver SUV with damage on the front end, according to the department.
