A Burbank man was arrested after drugs were delivered to him through Uber couriers, Burbank police told NBC Los Angeles exclusively Thursday.
Officers with the Burbank Police Department were initially sent to the area of Olive Avenue and Fifth Street at around 5:15 a.m. Wednesday about an Uber package delivery.
Two couriers told police that they had picked up an unsealed iPhone box from a person in Glendale, being asked to deliver it to the Burbank location.
As they were driving to the destination, they noticed the unsealed box had a white, rock-like substance.
Once they arrived at the Burbank address, a man, holding a wrench, approached them. Fearing for their safety, the couriers called the police.
The responding officers saw the substance and believed it was fentanyl. They seized the package and detained the man at the Burbank address.
The man was identified as 61-year-old Karen Mamidjanyan, and police said he has other narcotics with him.
Mamidjanyan was arrested and booked for the misdemeanor charge of possessing a controlled substance.
