CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women’s basketball team closed out regular season play on Saturday, picking up a 73-59 victory over Oakland on Senior Day. With the win, the Vikings are now 23-8 overall this season and finished the year with a 13-7 #HLWBB record.

Izabella Zingaro led the Vikings with 26 points, while Colbi Maples tallied 20 and Jada Leonard added 17.

Izabella Zingaro grabbed a team-best six rebounds, while Jada Leonard and Macey Fegan recorded five.

-Cleveland State shot 54-percent from the field on the game, including a .727 clip during the first quarter.

-The Vikings combined for 14 assists, including six from Jada Leonard.

Jada Leonard posted three steals on the day, while Colbi Maples added two and Sarah Hurley added two.

Game Notes

Izabella Zingaro tallied her 10th 20-point game of the year after finishing with 26 on the day.

-With 20 points against Oakland, Colbi Maples tallied her ninth 20-point game of the year.

-The Vikings’ .547 clip from the field marks the eighth time this year that CSU has shot 50-percent or better from the field.

-With the win, the Vikings are now 16-1 when playing at home this season.

The Game

After a back-and-forth first quarter that had Oakland leading 21-18 after 10 minutes of play, the Vikings quickly regained the lead over the first few possessions of the second quarter, as back-to-back baskets from Colbi Maples put the Vikings up 23-21 on a three-pointer at the 8:48 mark.

The two teams then traded baskets, and leads, over the next few minutes, until an 11-0 Cleveland State run gave the Vikings a double-digit lead at 36-26, before Oakland closed the frame with a basket of its own, sending the two teams into the halftime break with the score at 36-28.

Although Oakland was able to get on the scoreboard first during the third quarter, the Vikings answered with a 7-0 run, as an Izabella Zingaro and-one play put the Vikings up by 14 at 44-30 midway through the frame. The Grizzlies were then able to work their way back into the contest throughout the remainder of the frame, as Cleveland State held a 48-41 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

Cleveland State swung the momentum back into its favor over the opening minutes of the fourth quarter then, as a Zingaro layup followed by a free throw regained a double-digit lead for the Vikings at 54-44.

After trading baskets over the next few minutes, the Vikings were able to close out the contest with an 11-5 run, capped off by a Laurel Rockwood jumper in the final seconds to give the Vikings their largest lead of the contest at 73-59 at the final buzzer.
