FRESNO, CA – The Fresno American Indian Health Project (FAIHP) is pleased to announce the opening of its 2025 Native Student Scholarships, designed to support Native American students residing in the Central Valley. Notably, these scholarships do not require applicants to be members of a federally recognized tribe, distinguishing them from many other scholarship opportunities.

FAIHP’s mission is to foster a culture of wellness and improve the quality of life for all Tribal Nations and communities. We empower individuals from diverse backgrounds by providing culturally-based health and wellness services that address the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of our communities.

Scholarship Details

FAIHP will offer scholarships of $1,000 to eligible Native American/Alaska Native students. Funding is made possible through generous donations and proceeds from FAIHP’s Native Days Car Show Fundraiser.

Award Type: One-time scholarship; applicants may reapply for future opportunities.Application Deadline: 5:00 p.m. PST on Monday, October 27, 2025.

Eligibility Criteria

Identify as Native American/American Indian and reside in the San Joaquin Central Valley (Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, Kings, or Tulare counties).
Be an enrolled student in an accredited college, university, or vocational program, either part-time or full-time.
Have engaged in community service within the past 12 months, verified by a college nominator.
Maintain a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.7.

Note: First-semester college students may submit their cumulative high school GPA if they graduated within the last 12 months.

Ineligibility

Current staff of the Fresno American Indian Health Project may not apply.

Required Documents

Complete the online application. Once that has been submitted, please send the following following documentation via email to vgarcia@faihp.org by the application deadline. Use the subject line “Scholarship Application – [Your First and Last Name].”

Current Transcript or Proof of Participation:

Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for initial applications.
Proof of registration for vocational programs, if applicable.

Proof of GPA:

Submit your most recent college transcript if you have completed at least one full college term.
Alternatively, provide your most recent high school report card if you graduated within the past 12 months and haven’t yet completed a college term.
If in your first semester and lacking a transcript or graduated over 12 months ago, no documentation is necessary.
No documentation is required if enrolled in a vocational program without GPAs.

Letter of Support:

Must be from a Native American community leader, employer, or academic professor.
The letter should detail your relationship and include examples demonstrating your strengths, character, potential for success, and community involvement.

Proof of Tribal Citizenship or Tribal Descent:

Acceptable documentation includes a heritage statement, proof of lineage, or other tribal documentation.

Notification and Requirements

Recipients will be notified via email by November 10, 2025. To receive the scholarship, recipients must attend the Fresno American Indian Health Project Native Days Car Show on Saturday, November 15, 2025. Scholarship recipients will also be photographed and interviewed for promotional purposes by FAIHP.
