Batter’s box: The Padres managed two hits off Giants right-hander Logan Webb (3 IP, 1 ER, 3 Ks) in his final start before joining Team USA. Center fielder Jase Bowen was hit by a pitch to lead off the game, stole second and scored on a single from third baseman Ty France. Luis Campusano, serving as the DH, singled to lead off the second inning but was erased on a double play. … France, who has been hit by pitches 126 times and led the majors in 2021 (27) and 2023 (34), was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning. France went 1-for-2. … Left fielder Ramón Laureano struck out twice but tripled in his last at-bat and has a 1.052 OPS through five spring games. … First baseman Jose Miranda went 1-for-3 with a double. … Right fielder Bryce Johnson went 1-for-3 and was thrown out trying to steal a base. … Second baseman Sung-Mun Song went 0-for-3 with a strikeout. … Campusano went 1-for-4.

Balls and strikes: Right-hander Germán Márquez struck out two and threw 21 of his 26 pitches in the first inning for strikes. The problem is, the strikes were hit more than they were missed. He allowed three runs on four hits in his first inning of work in his Cactus League debut. But Marquez did rebound for a scoreless second inning on 11 pitches. Marquez, 31, had a 6.70 ERA in 126⅓ innings for the Rockies last year in his first full season back from Tommy John surgery. He is hoping to battle for a spot in the rotation. … Another rotation hopeful, left-hander Marco Gonzales, struck out a batter over two scoreless innings before he gave up two runs in his third inning of work. He finished with five hits allowed and 28 of his 42 pitches for strikes.
