SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A 2-year-old child was killed, and their mother was injured when struck by a vehicle Friday night in the Mission Rock section of San Francisco.

Officers responded about 8:55 p.m. to the area of 4th Street and Channel Streets, police said.

The two pedestrians were taken to a local hospital, where the child was declared dead, police said. The adult was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with investigators, police said. Neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be a factor, they said.

“I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of a two-year-old child in last night’s crash in Mission Rock, and my thoughts are with the family during this unimaginable time,” Mayor Daniel Lurie said Saturday on social media. “My heart is also with the child’s mother, who was injured in this incident.”

Lurie said, “We must continue working to make our streets safer for every family in San Francisco.”

Anyone with information was asked to contact the San Francisco Police Department at (415) 575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.
