The Light the World Giving Machine, a giving-focused vending machine sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will return for the holiday season starting Nov. 19 at the Altamonte Mall.

Instead of buying a drink or a snack at these unique machines, those choosing to give through Dec. 14 can purchase in-demand donation items on behalf of those in need locally.

The Osceola Council on Aging was one of the charitable organizations that benefitted from the Central Florida machine location, and donors purchased 380 items valued at over $8,500, including “Fun for Seniors” packs, holiday meals and gift cards, senior bath bundles and pet care packs, as well as five medical alert systems.

Some of the machines placed by The Church across 13 countries on five continents featured items like newborn baby kits, fruit trees, counseling sessions, a mobile shelter and bedtime story books to groups who support those who need them to provide the recipients with relief, dignity, greater self-reliance and joy.

The Altamonte Mall Giving Machine also offered children’s bed supplies, toys, showers for the homeless and meals plans for a year. About $100,000 in such contributions were made at that location alone in the 2024 holiday season.

Sam Haught, the media representative for the Central Florida Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which includes Osceola County, said he is actively seeking space to bring a Giving Machine to Osceola.

“We’re seeking a spot, so our people can use it, and we can represent more Osceola County charities,” he said.

In 2024, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints placed the Giving Machine in 107 cities across 13 countries on five continents. Since the Church launched the first Giving Machine in 2017, 2.4 million people have donated more than $50 million, making charitable giving more accessible and inclusive.

In addition, the Church covers all program operational expenses ensuring participating nonprofits receive 100% of the collected funds.

“This Christmas season, the Giving Machine is more than just a vending machine— it’s a reminder that even the smallest act of generosity can reflect the love of Jesus Christ,” said Elder Daniel P. Amato, a regional leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving Central and South Florida. “In a world that often feels divided, these machines unite us in compassion and love. Each donation is a quiet but powerful way to lift someone’s burden and bring the light of Christ into their life.” For more information about the Giving Machine at the Altamonte Mall or others around the world, visit https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/comeuntochrist/light-the-world/giving-machines.
