INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Horizon League has announced the 2025-26 #HLWBB Postseason Teams and Awards, with Oakland’s Makenzie Luehring plastering the awards list, being named  Horizon League Freshman of the Year, All-League First Team, and All-Freshman Team.

The guard from Jackson, Wis. becomes just the second Golden Grizzly in program history to earn Horizon League Freshman of the Year, the first since 2022-23, and the first ever Oakland freshman to be named to the Horizon League All-League First Team.

Luehring dominated in an unprecedented way during her first collegiate season, scoring 18.2 points per game (second most in the conference) and dishing out 4.2 assists per game (third most in conference) in league play. She also tallied the most points, assists, made threes, and steals of any freshman in the conference.

She shot nearly 42% from the field and 36% from beyond the arc, draining the most threes (46) of any player during the conference slate. Along with 1.8 steals per game and 12 games with multiple steals, she made her presence known on both sides of the court.

The only player in the conference with multiple 30+ point performances this season, she has terrorized opposing defenses, going off for 20 or more points on nine different occasions, and dishing out four or more assists 19 times.

With one of the most decorated regular seasons of any Oakland freshman in program history secured, Luehring looks to lead the Golden Grizzlies to postseason success as they hit the road for the start of the Horizon League Championship this Wednesday.
