Stanford took early control. Sophomore Meja Örtengren never trailed in a 4&2 win over Spartan freshman Regina Roldan, making four birdies in 16 holes and closing with another on 16. Senior Kelly Xu followed with a 4&3 victory over junior Moa Andersson, winning three straight holes after the fourth and sealing it with a birdie on 15.
The momentum then flipped.
Freshman Kleopatra Kozakiewicz sparked the comeback with a 1-up win over world No. 3 amateur Andrea Revuelta. Kozakiewicz did not lead until winning the 17th, then halved the last to secure the point.
Another freshman, Lotte Schuhr, delivered a dominant 6&4 win over senior Megha Ganne, closing on 14.
Sophomore Isabella Cioe clinched the match with a 2&1 victory over junior Paula Martín Sampedro. After Martín Sampedro cut a three-hole deficit to one, both birdied the 14th before Cioe nearly holed out on 17 to seal it.
Freshman Ting-Yu Chang completed the turnaround, defeating fellow freshman Anna Song 1-up. Song rallied from four down with three straight wins, but Chang’s six birdies proved decisive.
The Spartans’ late surge secured a statement win over the nation’s top-ranked team.
