Residents in Natomas, Rancho Cordova, and Folsom are experiencing repeated mail thefts, leading to frustration and calls for action from local leaders and residents. Gloria Mercado, a Natomas resident, said, “A couple of times they’ve broken into it and a couple of times, I’ve got mail that’s ripped when I get it.” This sentiment is echoed by many in the area. Sacramento District 1 Councilmember Lisa Kaplan highlighted the frequency of these incidents, stating, “If not weekly, it is hit several times a month, and that is a problem because our residents deserve to have an answer and not, ‘there is nothing we can do because this is a federal crime.'” In response to years of complaints and pressure from local and federal leaders, a new countywide task force is now targeting mail theft.
