At approximately 11:26 am on March 2nd, 2026, Long Beach Police Department and Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to a reported vehicle versus multiple pedestrians at 440 Maine Avenue in Long Beach.
Upon arrival, first responders located a woman and a child who had been struck by a vehicle. According to a lieutenant with LBPD, a male driver was making a turn and, for unknown reasons, reportedly pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake, striking the woman and her child.
The woman was transported to a local trauma center with injuries that were not immediately disclosed. One of the first arriving officers transported the child in a patrol vehicle to the hospital with major injuries.
Update: Long Beach Police Department later confirmed the child succumbed to their injuries.
No additional information was immediately available as the investigation remained ongoing.
