A semi-tractor trailer was destroyed after bursting into flames on the southbound I-805 through Mission Valley Tuesday morning, but there were no immediate reports of any injuries.
The vehicle caught fire around 6 a.m. Tuesday on the 805 between Murray Ridge and the 8, the California Highway Patrol said. The cabin of the semi truck and its trailer were melted down to their frames.
Lanes on southbound I-805 were expected to be closed for at least five hours as crews clear the scene.
Motorists traveling southbound toward downtown San Diego were advised to detour at SR-163.
The cause of the fire remains unclear at this time.
