Kern Oil is a documentary based on the voice of the hardworking men and women whose lives are intertwined with the oil beneath their feet. Director Rickey Bird’s father killed himself after losing his job in the oil fields of Kern County. His life in the oil industry was all he knew, so when he had no more career he lost hope. His son, wanted to know more about the oil industry that drove his father to his death, and in return found out how much Bakersfield, Kern County, California and the US depend on the oil found in our backyard.
