LOS ANGELES, CA — Luxury movie theater chain IPIC will close both of its Los Angeles County locations next month amid bankruptcy proceedings.

The IPIC locations in Westwood and Pasadena are set to permanently close on April 28. Nearly 200 employees will be impacted, according to state layoff notices published this week.

IPIC last week filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization as part of a plan centered around efforts to sell its assets. As part of that, it filed WARN notices in every state it has theaters, notifying all employees they may be laid off.

“As part of this process, IPIC cannot guarantee employment beyond the notice period,” the company wrote in a release.

So far, no potential buyers for the California locations have publicly come forward.

“After exploring a range of possible alternatives, the company concluded that a court-supervised sale of assets is in the best interest of the company and its stakeholders,” CEO Patrick Quinn said in a statement. “We are committed to continuing our business operations with minimal impact throughout the process and will endeavor to serve our customers with the high standard of care they have come to expect from us.”

IPIC previously filed for bankruptcy in 2019.

IPIC’s financial woes come after AMC, the world’s largest movie theater chain, reported last week that attendance dropped nearly 10% in the final quarter of 2025 compared to the same period the year before.

Executives say they anticipate reviewing the performance of 85 theater locations this year to decide if those locations should remain open or be closed.
