FRESNO, Calif. – Sophomore Ariya Soldwisch posted her third top-20 finish of the season to lead the CSUN Women’s Golf team to a fifth place finish at the conclusion of the Fresno State Classic on Tuesday at Fort Washington Country Club.

After carding rounds of 6-over 78 and 2-under 70 on Monday, Soldwisch closed with a 4-over 76 on Tuesday to tie for 12th at 8-over 224. Soldwisch had three birdies in the final round after posting seven over the first two rounds.

CSUN posted its second-best team round on Tuesday, following up rounds of 311 and 288 on Monday with a team round of 305 on Tuesday. At +904, the Matadors finished one shot behind Fresno State (903). Pepperdine claimed the team championship with a three-round score of 853, 44 shots better than second place Cal Poly (897). The Waves’ Eunseo Choi overcame teammate Yingzhi Zhu to claim individual medalist honors at 6-under 210.

Following Soldwisch, junior Nicole Tanoue also finished in the top 20, tying for 16th at 11-over 227. Tanoue finished with rounds of 79-71 on Monday, before closing with a 5-over 77 to place 16th with teammate Gracie Piar.
Piar followed up rounds of 79-73 on Monday with a final round 3-over 75 to also tie for 16th at 11-over 227.
Senior Kim Turgut, who began the day tied for 14th after rounds of 76-74, finished Tuesday’s final round at 7-over 79 to place 24th at 13-over 229. 
Meghan Paracuelles closed the CSUN scoring, tying for 28th at 15-over 231 following rounds of 78-76-77.
Lily McGowan, competing as an individual, had the best tournament of her young career, tying for 28th at 15-over 231 (73-76-82).

CSUN will be back on the course this Sunday (Mar. 8) as the Matadors open competition at the MSU SoCal Spring Invitational at Sterling Hills GC in Ventura.
